Apple is bringing out a series of exciting new AI features along with an update to the Voice Memos application in iOS 18.2. The tech giant on Wednesday revealed that the users of iPhone 16 and Pro Max will have the ability to layer their vocal tracks over existing instrumental recordings directly within the Voice Memos app and all of this will not need headphones.

This innovative approach enables musicians to record their instruments using iPhone speakers while they capture their voices through the advanced microphones on the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

The update was initially released during the September event of Apple offering a fresh alternative to the now-defunct Music Memos app which unfortunately was discontinued in 2021. This left a lot of musicians looking for alternatives like Tape It and others.

According to Apple, dubbed ‘Layered Recordings’, these tracks can be effortlessly synced from Voice Memos on Mac across all devices. Users can also drag and drop these recordings into a Logic session on their Macs.

To show this feature, Apple has paired up with artists like Michael Bublé, producer Greg Walls and Carly Pearce, who created the track “Maybe This Christmas”. The use of the Voice Memos application to capture vocals was illustrated in behind-the-scenes videos.

The Voice Memos app enhancement is ready to be available for users on devices like iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users running iOS 18.2. In addition to this, importing Layered Recordings and sharing to Voice Memos will also be available on several other devices like Logic Pro for iPad 2.1 and Mac 11.1 with macOS Sequoia 15.2.

In the previous iOS 18 update, the users were offered Audio transcriptions, which allowed them to view their speech while recording or even after recording.
