Apple Plans to Continue Movie Releases on Streaming Services

The big plans of Apple to release movies in theaters have been rolled back, and it will continue to do so on its streaming services. This decision has been made looking at the disappointing box office results of a few big-budget films.

For example, the company released the movie ‘Wolfs’ on Apple TV+ on Friday on its streaming service after showing it in limited theaters. It is noteworthy that the company’s original plan was to release movies in thousands of locations worldwide.

This strategy will most probably continue till June 2025 because Apple is trying to reduce cost expenditure on movie theater releases. Earlier, the company invested $100 million to $200 million in films such as ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, ‘Napolean’, ‘Argylle’, and ‘Fly Me’.

In the coming years, the tech giant will focus on producing movies under a strict budget of $100 million, but with only one or two big theatrical releases per year. Other movies will be shown on its streaming service.

Not many companies make such a drastic decision as it impacts the revenue directly as well as creates a complex system for movie production houses. However, Apple is also competing with strong contenders like Netflix and Amazon Prime with a global audience.

While Netflix is definitely at the top with new releases that win major film awards, Amazon Prime also tries to lure viewers with its variety of content. In comparison, Apple has fewer and more selective movies and web series that are not easily accessible in every country.
