Major film studio groups like Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon, and Walt Disney Studios have officially collaborated to work with Vietnam law enforcement to shut down several criminal streaming sites. This international anti-piracy alliance takes credit for officially expediting the shutdown of Fmovies, a pirated streaming website.
The alliance revealed working together has not only led to the victory of shutting down Fmovies but also other unaffiliated sites, bflixz, flixtorz, movies7, myflixer, and Aniwave. ACE says that sites like Fmovies had an average of 6.7 billion visits between January 2023 and June 2024.
During the efforts to shut off such websites, two men were also arrested by Vietnam officers, sending a clear message to the illegal operators. Larissa Knapp, the executive vice president and chief content protection officer for the MPA, said
“We look forward to ongoing joint efforts with Vietnamese authorities, US Homeland Security Investigations and the US Department of Justice International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (Ichip) program to bring the criminal operators to justice.”
Fmovies has been under the target since 2024. Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the Hollywood trade group the Motion Picture Association (MPA), noted that about one-third of the site’s traffic came from the US.
There have been quite a few responses from the people on Reddit. Mixed reactions among them can be seen regarding this news. One user posted: “Between last night and this morning, everyone woke up to the streaming apocalypse of their beloved. sites being deleted by Uncle Sam. Anyone who’s posted a link or name-dropped a site on this page congrats; it’s your fault.”
Others said, “Oh, it’s one of those streaming sites. 10 more will pop up before the week ends, lol.”
