To step up the security of its users, Gmail has introduced new password rules as of September 30. This is in regards to Google’s continuous effort to improve cybersecurity.
So, if you have also downloaded a new application and are about to set a new username and password from the Android play store, you will get a prompt to set a Google passkey.
Moreover, Gmail has gone one step further and taken strict steps not to allow data misuse from third-party apps and devices that only use simple login methods. This new update will be rolled out throughout September for Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Android.
It is important to note that Google is now introducing the advanced security of post-quantum cryptography, which makes it difficult to infiltrate by attackers. This is a gradual change since Google has been preparing for this transition for a year.
For those who use Google Workspace, they will need to log in using a more secure method known as OAuth. This will also be applied to all Google Workspace accounts, like CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP, POP, and Google Sync, that will no longer accept password-based login credentials.
Quantum is the new technology that many industries are eager to integrate since cybercrimes have increased and not just small but big banks are being affected. Google is the first company that has successfully applied quantum mechanics to its services, which will benefit many millions of its users.
