Google’s Gemini as Gmail Q&A is available in Gmail

After the introduction of AI-generative Gemini in Google Workspace including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drive, etc. Google is ready to set Gemini in the side panels of Gmail.

On 29 August 2024, Google announced through a blog post, “We are excited to help users supercharge their productivity with the help of Gemini in Gmail. Users now have even more capabilities from Gemini to help users get more done during their day at their desks and now, on the go.”

  • Summarize an email thread
  • Suggest responses to an email thread
  • Get help drafting an email
  • Ask questions and find specific information from emails within your inbox or from your Google Drive files

In addition to the announcement, Google revealed that an AI feature named ‘Gmail: Q&A’ is rolling out for Android devices and will be available for iOS devices also (didn’t mention the time).

Moreover, the Gmail: Q&A features in Gmail functions as a personal AI assistant. It can allow users to summarize emails and polish drafts frequently. Users can find specific information from emails rather than traditionally scrolling and searching. For example, “Show me today’s unread emails”, “When will the next meeting be scheduled?”, and more.

Therefore, Google Workspace Updates announced that the new features of “Polish” will help users draft their emails quickly. Users are required to add rough notes in the draft and hit the “Polish” feature to summarize, shorten, and formalize their writing.

However, Gemini is available for users who pay for Google One AI Premium. Users can pay around $20 per month for access to AI Gemini. Google persuades users that the AI around all of Google Workspace will help them strengthen their productivity and worth for costs. Despite this, it is predictable that Gemini will be available for free in the foreseeable future.
