Wear OS smartwatches are set for significant health upgrades, thanks to the technology from Masimo. If the name Masimo evokes recollection, it may be attributed to the company’s recent and highly public dispute with Apple. A company that nearly got the Apple Watch banned.
Masimo, known for its advanced health-monitoring technology, is partnering with Wear OS manufacturers to enhance features like heart rate monitoring, oxygen saturation, and other vital health metrics.
The company previously sued Apple, claiming patent infringement related to health features, leading to a near ban in the U.S. of the Apple Watch. Now, Wear OS devices are benefitting from Masimo’s innovations, bringing even more competition to the smartwatch market.
Masimo points out:
“By incorporating Masimo’s breakthrough biosensing technologies – based on its decades of expertise developing industry-leading hospital monitoring solutions – and standardizing smartwatch devices using the Masimo reference platform. OEMs will be able to more efficiently build and bring high-performing Wear OS smartwatches to market. The robust reference platform is designed to support the fast-growing Wear OS ecosystem – including with a suite of health and wellness tracking tools that consumers can trust to provide accurate, reliable data, seamless integration with Android smartphones, and a high-quality, high-performance experience.”
These upgrades are expected to help Wear OS watches better rival compared to the Apple Watch in health and fitness tracking. This will give users more reliable data for managing their well-being. The move marks another step in the rapidly growing wearable tech industry, where health monitoring is becoming a key feature for consumers.
