BEIJING— Huawei is set to launch its latest trifold smartphone, the Mate XT, a Z-shaped trifold phone, which is scheduled to be revealed at a launch event on Tuesday. As shown on its website, the brand has already received 3.6 million pre-orders, just a few days ahead of the launch of the iPhone 16.

Pre-ordering customers will be getting details on how to purchase the phone on Tuesday, the launch event day, rather than making a down payment.

According to Canalys, Apple departed from the top five smartphone vendors in China during the second quarter. The firm noted that it was the first time that domestic players held all five spots.

It’s important to know that Huawei is now selling more than Apple’s iPhone in China. This is because of new technology, feeling patriotic, and changing situations in the world.

In recent years, Huawei has been putting a lot of money into research and development lately, especially in the world of 5G and foldable phones. This has significantly contributed to sustaining a competitive advantage despite global obstacles, such as the U.S. sanctions that restrict their access to advanced chip technologies.

According to speculations, Huawei ranked fourth by market share with 10.6 million smartphones shipped. Canalys only shared shipments for the top five vendors. In the first quarter, Apple shipped only 10 million phones.

Huawei and its Chinese competitors already sell folding and flip phones. Apple has yet to break out into those market segments.
