Instagram is a popular social media platform for content creators, however, these days it has been making users question their choice.
Because of its hyper-visual nature, Instagram is popular among audiences who are seeking new creative ideas and style inspiration. It also appeals to users who want to become influencers and use their personality and interests to help brands reach their target users.
Recently, the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, revealed that they intentionally lower the quality of less popular videos to reserve higher quality for more popular content.
Mosseri said on Sunday, “We bias to higher quality… for creators who drive more views”.
This revelation has simply caused a spark in the Instagram community. The creators are concerned that degradation may lead to impacting the reach and visibility of their videos.
“If something isn’t watched for a long time because the vast majority of views are in the beginning, we will move to a lower-quality video,” said Mosseri. “And if it’s watched again a lot, we will re-render at a higher quality video.”
According to him, users should focus on creating engaging content that caters to their audience, rather than be overly concerned by the possibility of its quality being degraded by Instagram. “The goal is to show people the highest quality content that we can.”
He also reassures the creators that If the number of views increases, Instagram will re-render the clip to make it look better.
