Hurricane Milton, a category 4 storm targets the area of Florida and causes the breakage of cellular connectivity and wirelines. Fortunately, the Apple iPhone series saves people’s lives by connecting their loved ones via satellite messaging.

In the September event, Apple introduced the iPhone 16 with iOS 18 beta and the newly advanced feature of iMessage. This feature allows users to send and receive messages without Wi-Fi connections. But it is only available on iPhone 14, 15, and 16 models with the latest iOS 18 version, Apple said.

Moreover, you can update your iPhone with simple steps:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Along with iOS 18 updation, make sure the iMessage option is turned on. This feature works when your connected person also has an iOS 18 updated iPhone series. Message via satellite feature is praised by iPhone users during the difficult times of Hurricane Milton.

Matt Van Swol, an Asheville, North Carolina, resident, wrote on X, “I’ve never been more thankful to be an iPhone user.”

He continued, “Due to the lack of cell service, EVERYONE in Asheville NC right now on iOS 18 has been able to get messages out and in with the Satellite messaging feature. This is literally saving lives.”

When your iPhone is out of normal signal range, it asks you to turn on iMessage which connects you to send text on Message apps without connection of Wi-Fi. The iPhone automatically tells you where to point the device to link with the satellite.

Apple also stated that the iMessage facility is not as speedy as normal messaging and doesn’t allow users to receive or send photos and videos.
