Meta acknowledges the engagement bait problem on the Threads. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram and Threads, announced that he and his team are aware of the issue and have started working on it.
Users have reported to have encountered bait in their “for you” feed.
“We’ve seen an increase in engagement-bait on Threads and we’re working to get it under control,” Mosseri said in a post on Threads. The company is “working to get it under control” after a spike in such posts. Mosseri didn’t say what measures the company is taking after a spike in such posts.
Engagement bait on Threads typically encompasses posts that feature repetitive inquiries or open-ended discussions to entice other users to engage. As Threads, which is similar to Instagram, defaults to displaying an algorithmic feed of posts, generating more interactions can transform a simple post into a powerful one.
Mosseri stated, “Not all comments or replies are good. Mark’s comment is more about Twitter pioneering a format where the reply can be elevated, which is a good thing, but that doesn’t mean that every reply should be.”
According to speculations, for some users, the engagement bait was working quite well. It would keep their posts viral for days and generate real engagement. It seems that many users will use rage bait for their benefit, after all, this social media rewards the creators with money. They are willing to fuel their accounts so they can hustle out some extra cash each month.
