Google has released a new gadget. It is equipped with special radar. It also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. People speculate that it could be a new Nest Thermostat.
There was radar in the 2020 Nest Thermostat as well. It was able to detect when someone was close by and turn on the display. A thermostat needs a base plate to stick on the wall or stand.
It might be a new Nest Hub, according to some. However, this is improbable. For controlling other smart home devices, the Nest Hub boasts more technology. Not so with this new device.
This new gadget plugs in all the time. It operates without the use of batteries. It was tested with either an AC adapter or a USB cable. This means it is not something you wear or carry.
Some suspect it is the Pixel Watch 3. Google previously showed radar in smartwatches. However, Google watches use more Wi-Fi bands, such as 5GHz. This gadget only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
Google has not revealed what this gadget is. It is still a mystery. The FCC filings show some details, but not enough to know for sure. People are guessing, but we do not know yet.
Other companies use radar technology as well. Amazon used radar to track sleep in its smart lamp. But they stopped making that product.
For now, we wait for more info from Google. Maybe then we will know what this gadget really is.
