Pretty much everyone is speculating on what OpenAI has planned for its event on Monday. Many have assumed that the company will be announcing its all-new ChatGPT-powered search engine to the public.
Others think that the company might be announcing a new open-source language model for its popular ChatGPT service.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman put an end to all the speculation with just a single tweet. He stated that it is neither a new GPT engine nor a new search engine but something that he thinks we all will love to see.
According to a new report, Apple will close a deal with OpenAI “to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system.”
Of course, that only means OpenAI won’t launch an AI-based search engine today. There’s still a good chance the company could roll out a search tool at some point. Companies like Perplexity are heavily pushing AI search. Google, the leader in search, is experimenting with AI results in the main search feed through Search Generative Experience (SGE).
If OpenAI were to roll out a search engine at some point, there could be some great benefits to be had.
We can only wait and see what Sam Altman and his team at OpenAI have planned for us in the event.
