The next flagship smartphone from OPPO, a well-known prominent innovator, is confirmed to roll out new camera features in its upcoming Find X8 series. Find X8 is said to feature a pressure-sensitive shutter button, much like the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16. This button makes it easy to quickly launch the camera app, adjust settings like aperture, exposure, and zoom, and handle other camera functions.
OPPO’s Zhou Yibao posted a video on Weibo showcasing a pressure-sensitive camera shutter button. This feature lets users double-tap to open the camera, and then press the button again to take a photo. Users can also swipe on the button to zoom in or out.
In the demonstration, the smartphone was kept underwater, showcasing that the device is not only IP69 certified but also water-resistant, making it easier to take photos and videos.
It is important to note that this feature is novel to OPPO and Apple is not also the first who introduce this idea in the first place. Many Android smartphones have been available previously in the market with this feature. For instance, Sony has added physical shutter buttons to several Xperia models, appealing to users who appreciate the tactile feedback and control these buttons provide. However, OPPO’s unique approach to this feature with gesture control and underwater functionality appears to take it to another step.
OPPO is planning to become a top competitor amongst the tech giants, more so the previous year, Find X7 was shockingly successful in surpassing the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in camera comparison tests.
OPPO’s Find X8 series is expected to debut with Android 15 and upgraded internal hardware. Although a recent leak gave us a sneak peek at the phone’s look, OPPO is expected to share more official details later this month.
