Here Are The Ways To Protect You & Your Ride From The Hot Australian Sun
Updated on December 23, 2024
Here is a fact that you might not be aware of as an Australian citizen. Many of us are deficient in vitamin D and you would think due to the amount of sunshine that we get here that this would not be the case. However, due to the fear of too much sun causing things like skin cancer, many Australians cover up while others spend most of their day inside in an office building. This means that we’re not getting our vitamin D from the sun and this is not good for our health outcomes.
The recommendation is that you try to get around 10 minutes of direct sunlight every single day onto your skin and for all other times, you need to protect both yourself and anything else that you own including your car. You wouldn’t believe the amount of damage that is caused to the interior and exterior of vehicles all across this great country of ours and so with that in mind, the following are just some of the top ways to protect both yourself and your ride from the hot Australian sun.
- Invest in sun shades for car – These are very affordable items that will not cost you an arm and a leg to purchase but they pay for themselves tenfold or more. You just simply place them on the windscreen or on the side windows and they protect the interior of your car like your seats and dashboard from harmful UV rays. There is nothing worse than getting into your car on a hot day and not even being able to sit on the seats because they are too warm.
- Buy quality sunglasses – It is tempting to buy the cheaper option but this is your eyesight that we are talking about here and so spend a little bit more money and get a pair of sunglasses that protect you from the harmful effects of UV rays. If you wear glasses anyway then talk to your optician about getting reactive lenses that give you the sunglasses look and still allow you to go about your daily things.
- Buy a wide brimmed hat – Many Australians prefer to wear a baseball cap because it looks good and it’s practical as well. This isn’t protecting the side of your face however and especially your ears. It also isn’t protecting the back of your neck and so these are the areas that become incredibly sore if you get sunburn. This is why it makes perfect sense that you would invest in a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun away from your face and anything else that surrounds it.
Always try to stay in the shade as much as possible and if you are outside and there is a tree nearby then go stand under it. If you’re going to the beach, make sure that you take a beach umbrella with you and apply your sunscreen liberally and make sure that you put it everywhere.
