Snapdragon 8 Elite chip has UWB technology

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is expected to power Android phones in the future. The company develops the first processor that supports AI applications and UWB technology.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite boosts FastConnect 7900 connectivity platform with advanced AI-backend 5G and WiFi 7. It also includes the connectivity of Bluetooth, Qualcomm Oryon CPU, and UWB (Ultra-Wideband) on a single flagship chip.

In addition to UWB features in the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, it is used in tracking Google’s “Find My Device” service, digital car keys, and smart home controls. The in-built technology of UWB expands the next-generation support through Android smartphones and makes it smarter like Apple hardware.

According to Android Authority report, “FastConnect 7900 is a single-chip 6nm solution. OEMs do not need to add any extra UWB hardware.”

Therefore, the above statement clarifies that there is no need for manufacturers to add extra hardware like antennas.

In response to Android Authority, the company stated that “all features and capabilities are delivered as a single chip solution.”

However, the current and top Android phones such as Google Pixel 8/9, and Samsung Galaxy S24 lack this technology. The question still arises, whether Android manufacturers adopt the UWB technology in their upcoming models or not.

Many analysts assume that if Qualcomm allows the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip equipped with UWB technology free without any license fees, then smartphone brands will never skip the opportunity to use this technology. Despite this, the company’s latest developed Snapdragon 8 Elite processor will transform people’s way of using Android devices or smartphones.
