On Thursday, United Airlines announced that it will offer free Wi-Fi services to all passengers in 2025 using the world’s leading provider of launch services, SpaceX’s Starlink services.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation owned by SpaceX. Starlink is known for its excellent services in providing internet. It provides coverage to more than 100 countries and territories.
Their equipment will be able to provide high-speed internet to multiple devices at a time. Airlines have claimed that Starlink’s services are superior to the pre-existing internet services on flights.
The offering will set new standards for in-flight Wi-Fi. Passengers will be able to connect multiple devices at once and browse the internet without any buffering and waiting.
Linda Jojo, the United chief Customer Officer, has revealed that once the Federation Aviation Administration approves the service equipment, the airline will begin testing Starlink’s services at the start of next year, and it will be expanded to more than 1000 planes.
She said, “When it is all done, Starlink will be like when internet users upgraded to their first cable modem from dial-up. It truly is like living in your dining room.”
Last year, Delta Airlines started providing free internet services on some of their flights. Reportedly, they have already tested Starlink services on their flights.
In recent years, there has been a surge in customers’ demand for high-speed internet services on flights. According to the Airline Passenger Experience Association, one-fifth of the passengers flying in the airplane connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi in the United States.
Due to this, more airlines have started offering Wi-Fi services. Airlines like Hawaiian Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air Baltic Corps, ZIPAIR Tokyo, Air New Zealand, etc. have made deals with Starlink to provide internet services on flights.
